Police in Turnhout, Antwerp Province, arrested six people on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into drug and arms trafficking.
Diamonds and numerous vehicles were also seized during searches carried out in Lille, Merksplas, Olen and Vorselaar.
During the operation, investigators discovered weapons and large quantities of narcotics such as cocaine and speed. They also seized drug trafficking equipment, mobile phones, diamonds, around €10,000 in cash, eight cars, a van and about 10 motorcycles.
Local police were supported by federal police and dogs, as well as defence, civil protection and customs officials in what is being described as the largest operation in the region in recent years.
The main suspect, a 62-year-old man from Lille, was placed under arrest by the investigating judge along with four other individuals. The sixth and final suspect was conditionally released.
