The construction of tram line 10 to Neder-Over-Heembeek has finally been given the green light, as the Council of State has officially rejected the request by local residents who wanted to suspend it, Brussels City Mayor Philippe Close announced.
While the residents presented six reasons to justify the suspension of the project, the Council of State did not accept any of them and instead confirmed that the government remained within the limit of its competencies and no assessment errors were found, Close stated on Twitter.
The court followed the auditor's report, which stated that the administrative file – including the impact report and the impact study, as well as the justification for the permit granted – holds true. "The file makes it possible to understand the reasons why the tram and the route were chosen and why the alternatives were rejected."
Brussels city councillor for Participation Arnaud Pinxteren added that the decision of the Council of State is also a recognition of the participatory work that the City and Region have done with citizens.
"The participatory work has justified the choice of the Neder-Over-Heembeek tram and a route has been collectively agreed upon. We reflected together with the citizens on the developments that the arrival of the tramway will bring," he said.
