After being closed for over a year, an iconic Irish pub in Brussels is expected to reopen, according to reports in Belgian media.
De Valera's on Place Flagey - which closed "for the last time" on May 27, 2018 - will reopen on an unspecified date in the summer, according to La Dernière Heure. The information was confirmed to the daily newspaper by the Alderman of Commerce, Audrey Lhoest (Ecolo).
"The former operator of the premises went to the commune's trade department to announce that he would soon hand over the various documents necessary for the reopening of the establishment," she explained.
The well-known pub closed for good on Sunday, May 27, 2018. "After 12 wonderful years, and after having been part of the regeneration of Flagey Square, it is with regret that we announce that we will close our doors this Sunday, May 27 at 11pm, for the last time," the establishment wrote on its Facebook page. At the time, patrons were invited to visit the Micheal Collins Irish Pub on Rue du Bailli.
Eagle-eyed passers-by might have already expected this news, due to a number of "coming soon" posters in the window of the currently empty pub.
