Road authorities have urged residents to keep calm over the deteriorating state of a bridge over the Brussels ring road, saying that there was "nothing wrong" with the capacity of the bridge and that the problem will soon be tackled, according to reports.
Residents and authorities last week said that they had repeatedly warned the Flemish road agency that a bridge that crosses over the ring road is in poor condition, saying that parts of the rusted railing have already fallen down.
"Whoever leans against it falls down,” a resident said, adding that the rusted railing could also pose danger to drivers on the road.
But according to a spokesperson with the Flemish road authority, both the residents and authorities should keep calm about the situation.
"There's nothing wrong with the capacity of the bridge, but of course people are rightly worried if the railings are rusted," spokeswoman Carla Cox told Bruzz, adding that the reparations of the railing would be carried out in the fall.
A spokesperson with Flemish mobility organisation Werkvennootschap said inspections were continuously carried out in the bridge, adding: "It is never really dangerous in Flanders. We don't have to worry about collapsing bridges, like last summer in Genoa."
