Man sentenced to 15 months in prison for assaulting women

The Charleroi magistrates’ court handed down a 15-month prison sentence on Thursday against a young man who admitted to several acts of violence against his partner and a friend of hers.

Florian C. was accused of assault and battery, breach of trust, damaging an entrance door and wielding a chair and a hammer. The prosecution had requested a sentence of 40 months’ imprisonment for the defendant, a repeat offender convicted in late 2022 for acts of violence. The defence had asked for a “reduced and moderate sentence.”

On 17 April last, in Châtelet, the friend of the defendant’s partner was slapped and punched following an argument over a cigarette. The girlfriend, who intervened, was hit with a chair thrown by Florian C.

A little later in the day, Florian C. struck his girlfriend in a similar manner when she announced her intention to end their relationship.

In early 2023, the defendant did not dispute the fact that he had committed a breach of trust by not returning a bicycle he had borrowed from his partner’s friend and that he had damaged the front door of her home.
