The Berlin police have ended their search for a wild animal that was believed to be a lioness as police now believe it is more likely a wild boar.
This morning, the police continued their search for the wild animal for which an alert was issued early on Thursday morning. A dangerous wild animal was first spotted around midnight on Wednesday in the suburbs of the German capital, where eyewitnesses reportedly saw the lioness attacking a wild boar.
However, after feverishly looking for the lioness for more than 24 hours, the mayor of Kleinmachnow, where the animal had been reported, confirmed that the alert was lifted on Friday, as independent experts had estimated, with the help of video footage of the animal filmed at night, that "it was probably a wild boar."
"I am assuming that there is no danger in Berlin and the surrounding area," said Michael Grubert, the mayor of the municipality to the southwest of Berlin.

Several reports from citizens had come in and police officers themselves also claimed they saw the feline twice. There were also images on social media of a motorist filming an animal resembling a lioness.
Tweet translation: "The warning of a free-roaming, dangerous wild animal in the area of the southern border of Berlin, updated this morning 06:07, is still valid. Please continue to follow the recommendations for action."
During the alert phase, police urged people to avoid the forest area south of the German capital, while residents of the Kleinmachnow, Stahnsdorf and Teltow suburbs were being urged via social media and by loudspeaker trucks not to leave their homes, and to keep all pets and farm animals inside.
