A 35-year-old man has been in a coma for four days after he became the victim of violence during the Gentse Feesten last week. It is not yet clear exactly what happened.

On the night of Thursday to Friday last week, a man was attacked and knocked to the ground during the Ghent Festivities. He was severely injured and taken to hospital immediately. Four days later, he is still in a coma.

The events occurred in the Onderstraat, near the Vrijdagmarkt in Ghent's city centre. What exactly happened has not yet been clarified, but the Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation.

There is no trace of the perpetrators for now.
