It was one of the largest prisoner-of-war (POW) camps in western Europe, holding nearly 60,000 Germans from March 1945 to August 1946. Yet today Prisoner-of-War Camp 2228 looks like a non-descript field near Brussels.

Terlanenveld was one of more than 40 POW and labour camps set up by the Allies in Belgium in the closing months of the war and immediate aftermath of Germany’s surrender.
