The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) has placed the entire country on yellow alert for a risk of thunderstorms, and has issued a rain warning for the province of Luxembourg on Wednesday afternoon and night.

On Wednesday afternoon, the weather will initially be variable. The atmosphere will then become more unstable, with a risk of heavy thundery showers and localised hail. Gusts could reach between 60 km/hr and 70 km/hr, while of 20 to 40 litres/m2 of rainfall is expected in the province of Luxembourg. Highs will be around 18 or 19 degrees in the Ardennes, and 20 to 22 degrees elsewhere, with a south-westerly wind.

The night of Wednesday to Thursday will be cloudy with frequent showers from the west, which may develop into thunderstorms. Minimums will be between 12 and 13 degrees in the Ardennes and 15 to 16 degrees in the lowlands. The wind will be moderate to fairly strong, blowing in from the south-west.

Due to the IRM warning, the emergency number 1722 has been activated.
