Two young Belgians from Antwerp have died following a quad bike accident in Turkey, according to the Belgian Foreign Ministry.
The siblings, aged 3 and 13, were vacationing with their family in the village of Yenikapi, located less than 200 kilometres from Turkey's capital, Ankara. A moment of inattention resulted in the older child deciding to ride a quad bike, taking her younger brother along.
Despite previous quad bike experiences, the 13-year-old ventured onto a sharply inclined street where she lost control.
Following a high-speed collision with a wall, both siblings were rushed to a local hospital. They succumbed to their injuries later.
Their untimely deaths were confirmed by the Foreign Office after the Belgian embassy in Ankara was informed by local authorities on Saturday. The siblings were laid to rest in Turkey later that day.
