One person killed by violent storms in the Baltic States

One person died in Lithuania on Monday when a violent storm unleashed strong gusts of wind as well as hailstorms and heavy rain on Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Buildings and vehicles were damaged and trees uprooted in all three countries.

In Zagare, northern Lithuania, a woman died after being hit by a falling tree, national radio reported, citing the emergency services.

In Estonia and Latvia, thousands of homes were temporarily without power, according to media reports.

Farmers have complained of extensive damage as the harvest season gets underway.
