Between 25,000 and 30,000 persons are expected in Malmedy for the 14th edition of the Vibrations Festival, to be held from 10 to 13 August, and featuring about 100 shows, including some 80 concerts headlined by Michel Fugain.
Over the years, Vibrations has become a not-to-be-missed event in Wallonia as part of the 'Fête de la musique.' "But it isn't just about music," says festival coordinator Jean Steffens. "It's also a variety of forms of expression in the performing arts, dance, a village of craftspeople, all associated with the 'braderie de Malmédy'." That's the town's annual mega-sales.
"For the fifth edition of the festival, and given the political climate, we decided to organise an evening on Friday on the theme of 'Student party, stupid country, don't touch my country," the coordinator said. "The aim of the evening, which will feature a number of Belgian DJs as well as the group 'les Gauff' [...] is to show just how absurd this crisis is."
Throughout the weekend, Malmedy will be pedestrianised and ten stages, some of which will be set up in unusual locations such as chapels, listed monuments and restored buildings, will play host to different groups and musical genres.
