The US FBI on Wednesday morning shot and killed a man in Utah who had threatened President Joe Biden, ahead of the president's visit to the state on Wednesday evening local time, US media reported.

US federal police agents neutralised the man during a search of his home in the town of Provo, TV station KSL announced. It was not known whether he was armed.

The individual reportedly threatened President Biden on social networks, writing, in particular, that he was going to dust off his sniper rifle before the president's visit.

President Biden was due to visit Utah on Wednesday evening, before speaking in Salt Lake City on Thursday about healthcare for veterans.

The investigation into the man's activities began in April and the Secret Service was alerted in June, unnamed sources told ABC News. Investigators determined that the man's threats of physical violence were credible.
