A driver caused chaos in the Walloon city of Namur on Wednesday evening when he ran into several people. He was later attacked by an angry mob, which included some of the victims.
The events took place near Place Léopold, close to the city's station. A man driving a Volkswagen crashed into several vehicles in the area. He then ran into two or three people in the railway station area, more specifically at the junction of Rue Borgnet, Rue Rogier and Rue de Fer. The victims sustained injuries to their legs.
The Namur Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed the events on Thursday, but did not divulge more information about the nature of their injuries.
The motorist was then attacked with pieces of wood and iron bars, apparently by people hit by the vehicle or by acquaintances of the victims, resulting in the vehicle being heavily damaged.
All those involved, including the driver and the people who attacked him, were arrested and will be questioned by the investigating judge.
