Two grenades were found on the windowsill of a house in Antwerp's Seefhoek district around 08:30 on Monday morning.
The police closed the area while the demining service intervened.
The explosive device removal and destruction service (SEDEE) removed the two grenades and transported them to safety. A forensic laboratory was also called to the scene.
Around 20 neighbours in the vicinity of the grenades had to leave their homes while other street residents were asked to stay indoors during the intervention.
The street was later cleared and residents were allowed to return home by late morning, police said.
