At Brussels North Station, Belgian railway company SNCB has installed a series of eye-catching metal pins on the walls near the station along the side of Place Solvay.

The pins are a fall protection system to prevent people from walking or playing on the walls, putting them at risk of falling off.

"It is mainly a preventive measure because it concerns a certain height," SNCB spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman told Bruzz, noting that children sometimes play on the walls.

"The pins are not the end result yet, though," Temmerman said. "Along the sides, there will still be upright plates so you will not see the protrusions anymore."

The same security measure has been in place on the other side of the same entrance for over two years.
