A man was found dead in Aalst (East Flanders) on Thursday evening and his wife was seriously injured, confirms Aalst mayor Christoph D'Haese following a report in Het Laatste Nieuws and Het Nieuwsblad.
The circumstances are not yet known.
The man died and his wife was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her life is said to be in danger.
The family's four children are unharmed and have been taken to safety, D'Haese said.
The East Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office has referred the case to an investigating judge, who will go to the scene with the federal police laboratory and a forensic pathologist to continue the investigation.
