A new 220-km network of footpaths has been added to the Brabantse Wouden walking network in the Senne valley, the province of Flemish Brabant announced on Wednesday. The entire network now comprises 920 kilometres of paths.
The Brabantse Wouden (Brabant Woods) form an extraordinary mosaic of centuries-old forests, rivers, sunken lanes and open fields, the province explained. They stretch from Leuven to the Senne valley, south of Brussels, at the other end of Flemish Brabant.
The new trails have been added to the province’s digital network. They are therefore not waymarked, as can be seen at certain pedestrian crossroads. They are, however, accessible via the mobile app listing these pedestrian crossroads or via the online walking route planner.
The Brabantse Wouden is one of the last candidates for recognition as a national park. Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA) is scheduled to make a decision on the matter by the end of the year.
