As of 31 August, it is no longer possible to have a validated French hunting licence to obtain a Belgian hunting licence, Walloon Minister for Hunting Willy Borsus confirmed in a press release on Thursday.
Wallonia has issued a hunting licences to anyone presenting a French hunting licence after passing the hunting exam in France since 2007. This equivalence was reflected in the regional and national regulations of the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg).
Since 2015, however, people have called for the French hunting exam to no longer be considered equivalent within Benelux, particularly due to the lack of monitoring and supervision of candidates in France.
This decision, taken last February, has no retroactive effect on French hunting licences and French hunters will still be able to come and hunt in the Walloon Region, provided they obtain a temporary hunting licence for a few days, Borsus noted.
