White Yellow Cross (Wit-Gele Kruis) is the first care home organisation in Flanders to launch a mobile healthcare app, called 'myWGK'.

Patients and carers can use the new app to access their electronic records. The platform has been around since 2016, but was only available on computers until now. "The myWGK app that has now been launched is more user-friendly, simple and quickly accessible," the organisation announced.

The myWGK app provides contact details, information on upcoming appointments, evolution of wound care, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and sugar levels, among other things. It also allows attending physicians and nurses to access their patient's records. Last year, over 65,000 users logged in via their computer – almost half of the 135,000 patients and 7,000 healthcare providers in the region.

"We notice that informal carers or younger patients are particularly in need of up-to-date information about their own care or that of their family member," said general director Hendrik Van Gansbeke. "We want to make it easily accessible and believe an app is the ideal tool for that."
