A 31-year-old man from Beyne-Heusay (Wallonia) has been sentenced to a decade in prison for perpetrating several rapes.
During 2022, the defendant, whose identity remains undisclosed, assaulted multiple victims. His modus operandi revolved around deceiving women into vacant or in-progress construction sites, including a residential property in Chaudfontaine and an unoccupied castle in Beyne-Heusay.
One of these women was his former partner, who he subsequently threatened into silence.
Despite his denial and claims of consent, the court overruled his defensive narrative. His guilt was unmistakable, as confirmed by incriminating DNA evidence, the court stated.
Moreover, the prosecution pointed out his aggressive habits, consistent denial, and lack of remorse as indicators of a significant danger he posed.
Deemed highly dangerous, the ruling maintained that his long-term isolation from society was paramount for public safety. Therefore, along with the 10-year imprisonment, a 5-year probation order was also enforced against the defendant.
