Woluwe-St-Lambert's Alderman of Urban Planning, Delphine de Valkeneer, wants to ban patio heaters throughout the entire municipality.

Patio heaters were already banned in the Georges Henri district of Woluwe-St-Lambert in 2012.

"The spirit of the bylaw in 2012 was to preserve the view of the architecture on Avenue Georges Henri. It was above all in an aesthetic concern," said de Valkeneer, reports SudInfo.

The total ban on patio heaters would be for aesthetic as well as ecological concerns, de Valkeneer explained, reports Bruzz.

"Four patio heaters burning for eight hours is equivalent to a car travelling for 350 kilometres. Heating the outside of a cafe is a waste," added de Valkeneer.
