Belgian tourist Laurence De Potter (49) has been missing on São Jorge island in the Portuguese Azores since 13 September, the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs confirmed on Friday.

The authorities have been searching for De Potter for about ten days on the island of São Jorge in the Azores, an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean belonging to Portugal.

The police commissariat of the town of Calheta on São Jorge island has been informed of the woman's disappearance. Several search teams have been deployed, which are also using drones to comb different areas.

She was carrying her backpack and mobile phone at the time of her disappearance. The rest of her personal belongings were at the campsite where she was staying in Calheta.

Belgium's Foreign Affairs Ministry is closely monitoring the case and is in close contact with the Belgian embassy in Lisbon, as well as the Belgian and Portuguese police, a spokesperson told Belga News Agency.
