The Grand Place in Brussels' city centre will provide the graduation stage for students from the ULB, the VUB, the Francisco Ferrer High School and Brussels' Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 9 to 15 October.

The VUB kicked off the ceremonies on Monday, and the university will honour 2,000 graduates over three days, in the presence of the chancellor, the dean of the faculty concerned and the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close.

"Receiving your diploma on the Grand Place is a joyous event, full of symbolism. We are delighted to be able to offer this experience to students from the VUB, the ULB, the Francisco Ferrer High School and, as of this year, also from the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts," Close commented.

"We started this tradition four years ago, and it has now become an integral part of the Brussels student experience."

The VUB chancellor emphasised the university's link with the city, and was delighted to be able to show just how "proud" the institution is of its graduates.

The Grand Place graduation ceremonies will take place all week, until 15 October, and Manneken Pis has even been given a new outfit for the occasion.
