Google unveiled its latest Pixel smartphone lineup on Wednesday, marking a significant leap in the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The launch event in New York was attended by tech enthusiasts and industry leaders eagerly anticipating the next frontier in connected products and services. The new phones will soon become available in Belgium and across Europe.

At the heart of this innovation is the Pixel 8 Pro, a smartphone designed to harness the immense potential of generative AI. Rick Osterloh, Vice President of Devices and Services at Google, expressed his excitement at the launch event, calling it a "major breakthrough." The Pixel 8 Pro is set to become the world's first smartphone equipped with its own generative AI system dedicated to enhancing image processing.

What sets the Pixel 8 Pro apart is its ability to run AI functions directly on the device itself, eliminating the need for remote server processing, which often demands substantial bandwidth. This innovative approach promises to revolutionise the way users interact with their smartphones, opening up new possibilities for real-time AI-driven tasks.

Tech revolution

Initially, this technology will enhance existing features, such as photo editing, but its future potential is limitless. Google envisions it playing a pivotal role in boosting human productivity, an area that has experienced significant upheaval since the advent of generative AI, enabling the creation of various content with simple voice commands.

In the race to develop intuitive tools that save time and enhance daily life, tech giants like Google and Microsoft are at the forefront. Google's Pixel phones are poised to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve, with a particular focus on Bard, Google's generative AI chatbot, which is comparable to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The vision for Bard includes real-time assistance, such as helping users choose the best hiking path, summarising emails, or even organising a birthday party seamlessly. Monika Gupta, a Google Vice President, shared her enthusiasm at the launch event, stating, "It's one step closer to our vision of designing the world's most useful personal assistant." She emphasised Bard's unique capabilities, which encompass personalised support, reasoning abilities, and content generation skills, all bundled into a device that can hear, speak, see, and execute tasks with unprecedented efficiency.

The company is also planning to equip the Pixel 8 Pro with a cutting-edge sensor to measure body temperature, pending approval from US regulatory authorities. This feature is expected to enhance the device's utility and appeal, positioning Google at the forefront of tech advancements.
