French President Emmanuel Macron arrived on Tuesday night in the Jordanian capital, Amman, his third stop on a trip to the region to show France’s solidarity with Israel following the 7 October attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.

Macron arrived at 10:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. Belgian time). He had earlier visited Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the families of French-Israeli victims of the attack. He then had a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank.

On Wednesday morning, Macron will meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman to discuss reactivating the “political process” toward a “two-state solution,” allowing Palestinians and Israelis to live side by side in peace and security, the Office of the French President announced.

Other meetings may also be scheduled with leaders in the region, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, but they have not yet been confirmed.

Macron also plans to discuss his proposal to create an international coalition to fight Hamas with countries in the region. According to his entourage, the goal would be to create a new coalition, or to extend the purpose of the one that has existed since 2014 to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq – in which Arab countries also participate – to include the fight against Hamas.
