On Thursday, the joint railway workers' union front announced that it would be issuing 96 hours' strike notice for November and December.

The CGSP Cheminots, the CSC Transcom and the SLFP Cheminots unions are denouncing "unilateral decisions" by rail companies "to the detriment of respect for the elementary principles of social consultation," as part of internal reorganisations.

The strike notice runs from 22:00 on Tuesday 7 November to 22:00 on Thursday 9 November 2023, and from 22:00 on Tuesday 5 December 2023 to 22:00 on Thursday 7 December 2023.

The common trade union front considers that "certain limits have been crossed" in its discussions with railway management. It is demanding a halt to the increase in productivity "to the detriment of railway workers," a halt to reorganisations "disconnected from the reality on the ground and with no added value in operational terms," a halt to the policy of signing job contracts and the implementation of statutory recruitment.

"During the last conciliation meeting, held on [24 October], the common front was forced to note that no positive initiative or creative solution was able to provide concrete answers to the concerns of railway workers or to improve the quality of public service expected by rail users," add the unions.

In recent weeks, workers' representatives had denounced SNCB management's intention to reduce the amount of time given to train attendants before they start work.
