A spontaneous strike that began on Thursday at De Lijn is continuing to cause disruption to the company’s network in numerous northern regions.

The areas surrounding Brussels have been impacted by the disruptions and journeys on the Brussels-Aalst-Ninove line, in Pajottenland and around Vilvoorde and Londerzeel, could be cancelled. The university city of Leuven is also affected.

Similarly, the entire province of Antwerp, including the metropolis, is caught up in the disturbances. In West Flanders, bus services are operating irregularly in the Westhoek and Kortrijk regions, however tram services along the coast are running as usual.

In Limburg, nearly one in three buses are not running due to a strike at a De Lijn contractor.

Several De Lijn depots’ staff spontaneously ceased work on Thursday following the announcement of a significant restructuring at the Flemish transport operator’s sites.

Four depots are slated for renovation and thirteen new depot/maintenance centres will be built, but others – encompassing 280 full-time equivalent jobs – will be shut and integrated into neighbouring sites.

De Lijn will be providing regular updates on the situation via its website and social media channels. Travellers are also encouraged to check the De Lijn app for the most up-to-date information.
