Flemish Education Minister Ben Weyts plans to invest nearly €20 million into 78 school building projects across Flanders.
The funding, aimed at improving teaching infrastructures, is channelled towards subsidised education institutions including municipal, city, provincial, and private schools.
It is supplied by the AGION (Agency for Infrastructure in Education), and is part of Flanders’ broader €3 billion budget for modernising and expanding school infrastructures—a half-billion-euro increase from the previous governing term.
Major investments in school infrastructure
Almost €20 million is being specifically allocated to the 78 school building projects throughout Flanders, with over €15 million going towards major construction work, like building entirely new facilities.
Several individual schools are set to receive substantial financial boosts. Municipal Primary School De Windwijzer in Laarne will receive €1.5 million for a new build and renovation works, whilst in Lievegem, another municipal school will obtain €1.4 million for demolition and new building projects.
Other schools benefiting from similar amounts include Het Klaverbos in Hemiksem, Erpe-Mere in Erondegem, De Klinker in Riemst, and Ak’Cent Bever in Bever.
Regional funding varies with €6.8 million being allocated to East Flanders, €4.2 million to Limburg, €3.2 million to Antwerp, €3.1 million to West Flanders, €2.4 million to Flemish Brabant, and around €180,000 to the Brussels region.
