Customs officers launched a spontaneous action at Brussels Airport on Monday morning, causing significant queues for departing passengers.

The airport specified that, while there were delays, the strike action was not affecting overall operations.

The officers, responsible for checking travellers’ baggage upon arrival and any declared goods, walked out from 08:45 to 10:00, Belga reports, resulting in extensive queues.

The Ministry of Finance, which oversees customs officers, as well as the CGSP union, were initially unable to specify the workers’ demands that prompted this action.

On Monday afternoon, it was confirmed that the actions were not initiated by unions but were related to next year's scheduling, clarified the Ministry of Finance. A discussion on this issue has already been scheduled for November with union organisations.

The CGSP trade union later confirmed that it was not involved in the action.
