A 54-year-old man was seriously injured in a fight in Willebroek, Antwerp Province, following the closure of a local fair on Monday night.
The Antwerp Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the incident, saying the man’s life was initially threatened, but his condition has since improved.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. “The investigation will determine whether there was a preceding argument or simply an act of unwarranted violence,” commented Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson, Kato Belmans.
The identity of the suspected attacker remains unknown. Several witnesses were present at the scene, and the police will also review footage from nearby security cameras.
As it stands, the incident is being classified as assault and battery, with no indication of any weapons being used.
