The United States has pledged a fresh $425 million military aid package for Ukraine, tailored to bolster the country’s anti-aircraft defence.

This latest assistance, announced by the Pentagon, is covered by funds that had been granted by the US Congress towards the end of September.

These funds represent the remaining available aid budget.

Included in the package are artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons and small-calibre munitions valued at $125 million.

The package also includes $300 million in laser-guided rockets. These have been financed via the Ukraine Security Assistance Programme, through which Washington supplies resources to Ukraine via its defence industry and partners, rather than directly from its own stockpile.

The United States remains the single largest contributor of military aid to Ukraine so far, having provided a total of $44.2 billion since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

However, certain Republican lawmakers have voiced opposition to the continuation of US military support. leading to potential future funding uncertainties.

The US Department of Defence has underlined that military aid to Ukraine is an “intelligent investment” in the nation’s security, stating it serves to ward off a larger regional conflict and deter potential aggression elsewhere.
