A person who drove in the wrong direction throughout a Brussels tunnel during a police chase has been arrested.
On Saturday morning at around 08:00, a patrol from the Brussels Capital/Ixelles police spotted a vehicle driving the wrong way on Boulevard Bischoffsheim in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.
When the officers attempted to halt the car, the driver sped off, continuing to drive against oncoming traffic. The fleeing vehicle took to Rue de la Loi, again heading into oncoming traffic, and then into the tunnel Loi under the Parc du Cinquantenaire.
Here, the police were finally able to stop the car and apprehend the driver, although one officer suffered minor injuries in the process, Brussels local police reported.
The tunnel was shut to traffic heading towards the centre as a result of the incident.
