Germaine Vanderroost, a 100-year-old Belgian woman from the municipality of Herne (Flemish Brabant), died after being tragically knocked down by a sheep this weekend.
Vanderroost's 100th birthday was extensively celebrated earlier this year, when she was given a tour in a vintage car. But last weekend, she was knocked down by a sheep that had broken out from the pasture next to her home, VRT reports.
She was transferred to hospital but died there as a result of her injuries later that evening. Vanderroost would have turned 101 next month on 22 December.
A beloved member of the Herne community, she used to run a Farmers' Union shop (now called 'Aveve') with her husband Marcel Vanhove. She was also a member of numerous associations such as Okra, Ferm, Samana and Onze-Lieve-Vrouwegilde. She also sang in the local choir for a long time.
Despite her age, she still lived independently in her own home.
