Man arrested at Brussels-Midi for making death threats

A man was arrested at Brussels-Midi station on Friday for making death threats to police officers.

On Friday afternoon, the Midi police zone, in collaboration with the Transport Police, carried out another operation in and around the railway station. These routine actions started towards the end of the summer and were brought in to improve safety around the station after the area.

During this operation, one of the inspectors noticed a man behaving suspiciously at around 14:40 in the afternoon, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office reported on Tuesday.

"The police moved closer to carry out a check, spurring the man to make death threats towards the police, saying he would kill both officers with a weapon," a statement from the office read.

The person was overpowered and was then transferred to the Midi police zone. "Here, he again made death threats against the police. He also threatened an attack as soon as he was released." Pictures of weapons were found on the suspect's mobile phone.

Police conducted a search of his home, during which they recovered a war weapon and ammunition, as well as a 3D printer.

The suspect was placed at the disposal of the Brussels Public Prosecutor who called in an investigating judge. The latter decided to place the suspect under suspicion for threats and released him conditionally, but the investigation is ongoing.
