A 43-year-old man from Genk has been apprehended in Alicante, Spain, on suspicion of involvement in a shooting in Genk, Belgium.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday and there is an outstanding request to Spanish authorities to extradite him to Belgium, Carma police, announced on Saturday.
The call-out for a shooting in Genk came through to Carma police on the night of 8 to 9 October. Following the incident, the man believed to be involved fled the scene.
Officers immediately responded and initiated an extensive search of the area. The suspect, a 43-year-old man from Genk, was identified shortly thereafter but managed to evade detection for some time.
In collaboration with a Spanish liaison officer and their police services, the suspect was eventually traced and arrested in Spain. An extradition process is underway.
The Limburg prosecutor’s office and Carma police are continuing their investigation.
