Two Belgian TV programmes, 'Recht naar de Gevangenis', and ‘Bestemming X’, have been honoured at the 2023 Golden Rose Awards.

The 62nd edition of the prestigious ceremony, which has recognised international television and radio productions since 1961, was held on Monday at Kings Place in London.

'Recht naar de Gevangenis'- in English ‘Straight to Jail,’- produced by Woestijnvis for Play4, was honoured in the ‘Factual Entertainment and Reality’ category.

‘Bestemming X' ('Destination X') produced by Geronimo for VTM, earned its prize in ‘Competition Reality.’

Two other Belgian television programmes had also been among more than 700 candidates from 30 countries nominated.

The series 'Season of Sex', shown on VRT MAX, did not convert its nomination into a win on Monday night. 'Capture' ended up winning in the 'Multiplatform Series' category.

The French edition of Dertigers, 'Trentainaires' ('Thirty-plussers') on RTBF, also did not claim an award in the 'Soap/Telenovela' category, where 'Another Love' emerged victorious.

Play4 had already bagged a Golden Rose last year with 'James, the Musical,' in the 'Studio Entertainment' category.

The Golden Rose Awards have recognised excellent and creative international television and radio programmes since 1961.

Previous Belgian award winners include 'De Mol' in 2000, 'Benidorm Bastards' (2010), and ‘Wat als?’ ('What If?') in 2013.

More recently, in 2018, Een's programmes 'Down the road' and ‘Sorry voor Alles ('Sorry for Everything') also swept up a Golden Rose each.

The final selection comprised 78 programmes spanning 13 categories.
