A 37-year-old Brazilian woman was arrested on Monday in Salvador, northeastern Brazil, on suspicion of murdering her Belgian-born husband almost a decade ago, according to local media reports.
The victim was identified as 52-year-old businessman Louis Marot, who was killed in Barra Grande in 2014.
The couple had only been married for a few months at the time of his death.
His wife, Elaine Marques, reportedly confessed to the crime quite quickly. She said she had drugged him before stabbing him to death, and claimed that she had felt physically threatened and verbally abused.
Marot and Marques lived with her seven-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Sudinfo reported that the circumstances surrounding her initial arrest were unclear.
Following Marques’s confession, she was supposed to have been imprisoned in a women’s jail. However, local newspapers stated that she was only apprehended on Monday.
