"A firebomb was thrown into an Antwerp restaurant during the Sunday to Monday overnight period," local police confirm.
The incident, which occurred at around 2:40 on Monday morning, didn’t result in any injuries.
Following the detonation, a fireball ensued, as narrated by the police. In addition to the damage sustained by the building, at least one car was damaged on the road.
Police investigations in the local area are ongoing with the search for suspects still underway. Firefighters were also on the scene, along with a forensics laboratory and bomb disposal experts, to investigate the circumstances.
Links to drug trafficking circles are currently being explored in the investigation.
