Helping to transform Wallonia into a European leader in the space industry is the main thrust of an agreement signed on Monday between the region and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The agreement is designed to help Wallonia identify projects that could potentially receive EIB support, in terms of financing and technical and financial consultancy, according to a joint statement.
The idea is also to create favourable conditions to attract private sector investment and to consider setting up a dedicated regional funding platform for space exploration.
This agreement will prioritise two key areas for Walloon businesses: earth observation and reusable launchers.
“Our mutual ambition with this cooperation agreement is to accelerate investment in aerospace in Wallonia, in particular by using EIB’s expertise in complex co-financing structures to fund the expansion of Wallonia’s space sector,” EIB Vice-President, Kris Peeters, said in the statement.
