The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a yellow alert for severe winds and tides on Thursday, prompting the Interior Ministry to activate the 1722 number in anticipation of potential storms or floods.
Winds are predicted to be particularly strong along the coast on Thursday, the RMI said. Gusts could also exceed 80 km/h inland, but only sporadically.
High water levels are expected on the coast, potentially leading to temporary floods on promenades.
"In the event of storm damage or water-related issues requiring firefighter assistance, requests can be made through the e-desk at www.1722.be, or by calling 1722," the Interior Ministry announced.
It stressed that the 112 number should only be used when lives are at risk.
