Belgium's Council of Ministers agreed on Friday to establish a mechanism for combatting anti-Semitism as a federal instrument, the Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities, Marie-Colline Leroy, announced in a statement.
The decision was taken on the recommendation of Minister Leroy, who had set up the inter-federal coordination mechanism against anti-Semitism on 8 November 2022, superseding the former Vigilance Cell.
This aim of the mechanism is to ensure that the overall fight against anti-Semitism is coordinated at the federal level. A report outlining its proposed structure and working method has been presented to the various governments in Belgium.
The first full assembly involving the formally federated bodies will take place on 15 January 2024. It is expected to issue workgroup mandates for 2024, the statement added.
