At least 113 people have been killed in a series of armed attacks in central Nigeria over the weekend, according to the local regional government.
“At least 113 bodies were recovered as the hostilities that began on Saturday continued into Monday morning,” chairman of the local government council in Bokkos, Monday Kassah, said.
The region which lies some 200 km east of the capital Abuja has been prone to ethnic and religious tensions for many years.
The initial death toll provided by the military on Saturday night was significantly lower, standing at 16.
