The American tech giant Apple has announced its intent to appeal a ban on several models of the Apple Watch by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC).
The ITC decided on October 27 to prohibit some Apple Watch series after Masimo, a medical device manufacturer, accused Apple of copying its blood oxygen detection technology. The administration of President Joe Biden had until December 25 to contest the decision but declared on Tuesday that it had not vetoed it.
Apple announced on Tuesday that it has lodged an appeal with a federal court. The US government had 60 days from the ITC’s decision to contest it, which it rarely does.
As of December 18, Apple had already suspended the sale of the Apple Watch series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the United States, stating it aimed to “respect the decision should it be confirmed,” a company spokesperson told AFP.
The watches have not been available on Apple’s website since December 21 and in stores since December 24.
