Brussels-native MEP Marc Botenga will lead the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB) list for Europe, alongside the party's leader in Liège, Sophie Lecron.
The far left-wing party announced its two leaders ahead of the European elections in June, happening at the same time as the Belgian legislative elections.
Sophie Lecron is the leader of the group on the Liège City Council but would be elected as an MEP if PTB won a large share of the vote in June. In 2019, the party secured its first seat in the European Parliament with Marc Botenga's election.
The party are now setting new ambitions to secure a second in the upcoming European elections in June. According to a poll by Le Soir and RTL from December, PTB/PVDA are currently leading in the polls in Brussels.
The Workers' Party (PTB/PVDA) is the only mainstream fully national party in Belgium with two linguistic factions under one-party leadership, rather than two separate parties defined by language.
On the Dutch-speaking side, the PVDA is aiming for its first elected official with Rudi Kennes, a worker and trade unionist from the car sector.
