Three individuals suspected of running a cannabis plantation in Lommel, near the Dutch border, have been detained by a Hasselt investigating judge, the Limburg Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Friday evening.
The arrest followed the discovery of about 600 cannabis plants in a residential garage.
Local police had spotted a suspicious vehicle near a property during a patrol on Thursday evening. When they attempted to inspect the car, one of the passengers fled the scene.
This individual was later found in a nearby garden, where police noticed a strong smell of cannabis.
The 47-year-old driver, who is from Hammont, and a 44-year-old Dutch passenger were subsequently arrested.
On searching the property, police apprehended a third suspect, a 57-year-old man from Lommel.
The federal police’s forensic laboratory arrived to gather evidence, after which the plantation was dismantled.
Following their interrogation, the suspects were taken before the investigating judge, who remanded them into custody.
