A man in his 70s was arrested in Menen on Friday after a high-speed car chase, according to the West Flanders Public Prosecutor's Office.
Two days earlier, the man had been involved in a first chase but had managed to escape. The driver ran down two police officers and is facing attempted murder charges.
On Wednesday, "the suspect was spotted by a patrol in a suspicious vehicle. He fled at high speed and a chase ensued," the Public Prosecutor stated. "Officers set up a roadblock at Ypres, which the motorist managed to break through to reach the French border."
Two days later, the septuagenarian fled in the other direction after running over a French police officer. "Another chase ensued, this time with French agents. The man was apprehended in Menen but, during the operation, he ran down another Belgian police officer."
