A disoriented woman was found in the Royal Palace in Brussels late Tuesday night.

Belgium’s Het Nieuwsblad newspaper reported the incident, which was then confirmed by the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office, although it remains unclear how the woman gained entry into the palace.

"Federal police officers discovered a 46-year-old woman in the Royal Palace adjoining Warandepark on the night of 16th to 17th January 2024," said Yasmina Vanoverschelde, a spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Vanoverschelde, the woman seemed confused and was promptly apprehended by the authorities.

In response to the incident, a magistrate started a process for enforced psychiatric admission. The woman is currently undergoing hospital care as part of this procedure.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the precise circumstances leading to this incident, specifically, how the individual managed to intrude the palace, added the prosecutor’s office.

The Royal Palace declined to comment.
