Belgian youngsters Kayin Luys and Kas Christiaens are among the nominees in the ‘Student’ and ‘Youth’ categories of Sony’s World Photography Awards 2024, the World Photography Organisation (WPO) disclosed on Wednesday.
The ‘Student’ competition this year encouraged candidates to submit a series of five to ten images reflecting the theme ‘Home.’
Kayin Luys is among the ten international students shortlisted in this category. His project, 'Don’t Trust Pretty Girls,' presents a portrait of his in-laws, celebrating their daily rituals and hobbies.
The ‘Youth’ competition permitted applicants aged 19 and under to submit a series in line with the theme ‘Through your eyes.’ The 10 shortlisted candidates include Kas Christiaens, who presented images captured at night that demonstrate the impact of light pollution on the Belgian countryside, and the effect of streetlights on the clarity of the night sky.
The winners of the ‘Student Photographer of the Year’ and ‘Youth Photographer of the Year’ will be unveiled on 18 April and will feature in the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House in London.
