A woman and two men in their twenties have been arrested in connection with a large-scale drug case, the Antwerp Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.

On 16 July 2023, customs officers seized over 6.8 tonnes of cocaine from the Port of Antwerp. The drugs were found in a container carrying bananas from Ecuador.

Police tracked the container to a Merksem warehouse, where four men were apprehended. Firearms and frequency jammers were also discovered.

The investigation progressed last week when six searches were conducted in Antwerp, in the districts of Berchem, Ekeren and Wilrijk, and also in the towns of Edegem and Ranst.

Three additional suspects were arrested: a 22-year-old woman, and two men, aged 23 and 26. They have been remanded in custody on charges linked to membership of a criminal organisation, the Antwerp Council Chamber confirmed on Tuesday.
